This extra long weekend, alyssa, becka, and myself decided to take a trip to the infamous "Hell House" in Elliott City, which we had heard so much about. our search led us to the Patapsco Female Institute, an all girls school that had closed it's doors back in the 30s or something. To our dismay the fence enclosing the building was closed and apparently the tours given here did not start up until April 1st.
After leaving the adventure to be fulfilled in April, I talked with my boyfriend who lives near the Ellicott City area and who was one of the people who I had heared about Hell House from. When I told him it was closed he gave me the funniest look and told me it didn't close. Well I thought he was crazy and proceeded to tell him about the fence that enclosed the building from the public.
The next day out of curiosity, alyssa, becka, heather, and myself decided to look up hell house online and get some information about it's past. We found the female institute but to our surprise found ANOTHER hell house in maryland- off of ilchester road. After feeling really stupid because we went to the wrong hell house, we hopped in the car and drove to illchester road. We found the right hell house, on a huge hill next to the ilchester bridge and tunnel. Being too scared to move from my car parked underneath the brigde, we called our mount st joe boys to come. After Michael, Jeff, and Ryan came, we walked across the bridge and through the tunnel. Then we decided to ascend the 40 some stairs up the hill to hell house. The place was amazing. Full of ruins of some unknown building. After taking millions of pictures, I was still fascinated. I wanted to know the name of this place, as I supposed it hadn't been called Hell House all of it's exsistance. The front of the building had a spot where the name had been engraved on stone above 4 giant pillars. Today on the end letters GE were left. We figure it had been a colleGE.
We researched online and heard stories about it's exsistance in the 30s. It had either been an all boys school, and all girls school, or some religious facility. Rumors of an insane priest who killed 5 nuns were in many of our online readings, as well as rumors of satanic rituals going on in the house after it closed. We took our search to the historic ellicott city library, where an extra friendly librarian helped us find so much information. The building used to be St. Mary's College, a seminary for men training to become priests. It closed it's doors in the early 70s due to a lack of enrollment. A fire from an unknown source occured in 1997 burning some of the building, but most of it's breakdown is a result of the past 2 hurricanes in Maryland as well as time and trespassers, who have taken stuff and graffiti-ed the house. Now all that is left is the brick out walls with rubble inside, and many urban legends drawing teenagers like myself to the house everyday.

alyssa took many pictures as well of the house, so if you're interested in the picture of the house on my page check out hers : crueleuphoria
